Temporary Graduate visa preparation checklist

Check your completed qualification and study duration against the published requirement for your stream.

A clear colour copy of your passport's photo page, plus any pages showing visas or entry stamps. If you hold a national identity card or have changed your name, copies of those documents are generally included as well.

One recent photograph of yourself, typically taken within the last six months, showing your head and shoulders against a plain background with your name noted.

A completion letter from your education provider, your academic transcript, and your award certificate (testamur) if it has been issued. These generally need to show the course name and the date you met all course requirements.

Records tying your study to your time in Australia — typically your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) records and your most recent student visa grant notice, including the visa grant number.

Your test report from a recognised English test (such as IELTS, TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic, Cambridge C1 Advanced or OET), generally taken within the validity window that applied when you lodge. Keep the test reference number handy.

An AFP National Police Check is typically requested for this visa, and police certificates from other countries where you have lived for a significant period may also be asked for. These generally take time to arrive, so applicants often order them early.

A letter or certificate from your insurer showing you hold adequate health cover for your stay in Australia, including the policy start date and who is covered.

If you are asked to complete health examinations, keep your HAP ID and any referral letters with your records. Not everyone is asked, so this is generally a hold-in-reserve item.

Any document not issued in English is generally accompanied by a translation prepared by a qualified translator, together with a copy of the original document.

Lodgement deadlines after course completion are strict; lodge on the official site.
